As announced at CES 2010, MSI updates its line of X-Slim laptops under Intel CULVER platform with a first model unveiled the MSI X-Slim X420 format 14 inches equipped with a Radeon Mobility HD5000. The MSI X-Slim X420 is configured with an Intel chipset GS45 + ICH9M, a Core 2 Duo SU7300 (1.3 GHz) or Pentium Dual Core SU4100 (1.3 GHz) Memory DDR3 1066/1333 MHz (2 slots). Hard Disk 250/320/500 GB SATA, chipset Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500MHD coupled to a Radeon Mobility HD5430 1GB DDR3 dedicated screen 14”WXGA brilliant HD resolution of 1366 × 768, a 1.3 megapixel webcam with microphone, a card reader 2 in 1 SD / MMC slots and Wi-Fi a / b / g / n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, HDMI, VGA, Headphone Microphone, Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0 (x2 with 1 combo e -SATA).
The MSI X-Slim X420 weighs 1.88 kg with its 4-cell battery and measures 350 x 234 x 24.1 mm. Bluetooth is optional as an 8-cell battery that can be found embedded in some versions, offering maximum autonomy announcement of 9 hours.

The MSI X-Slim X420 runs Windows 7 Home Premium and has the facial recognition system via the webcam and VeriFace ECO Engine technology where the user can choose between 5 different operating modes best suited to the use he wants making PC games, movies, presentations, office or Turbo Battery mode. With the latter, it is possible to reduce the energy consumption of the device include reducing the operating frequency of the processor to obtain greater autonomy.
3D Technology Boost is also present. By pressing the button 3D Boost Mobile will activate the high performance mode and operate on the dedicated graphics card that provides increased performance and a better experience on an external display. By pressing the button again 3D Boost, the laptop works only on the graphics integrated less energy and off the dedicated graphics card. This has the effect of increasing autonomy.
The MSI X-Slim X420′s design differs from X400. Instead of black or white for the latter, the X-Slim X420 sports a textured finish most original called Cappuccino Brown. The interior is seen sporting a gold color, except black Chiclet keyboard. The touchpad is pressed into the chassis and has two dark buttons.
