Acer is the first automaker to launch a 120 Hz monitor in 24 inch Full HD. So far, only Samsung and Viewsonic have invested in the market with models 22 inches. Acer GD245HQ monitor is highly anticipated. Its design recall the G24, even if the shell is copper on foot.
Ergonomics: VGA DVI and HDMI
Here is the third model to screen 120 Hz available, there was a slight increase in ergonomics from one model to another. The first, the Samsung 2233RZ had only DVI, and ViewSonic has added a VGA output on the VX2268wm few months later. The Acer GD245HQ passes him, VGA, DVI and HDMI. The overall picture is still prodigious. At this rate it will take another 5 or 6 templates to land a height adjustable stand or a USB hub.
So we are to address the issue of connectivity, a question on the HDMI input is asked quite frequently: HDMI and 120Hz is that possible?
The answer is no, at least not with the standard 1.3 in place now. The tests have actually managed to raise the frequency scanning over 60 Hz, but at best it has obtained 75 Hz with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. It will therefore necessarily pass through the DVI input – with a Dual Link cable – to achieve up to 120 Hz in 1920 x 1080p.
Reactivity: new record. The king is dead, long live the king!
For the record, we prefer to count afterimages (ghost images that are slow to fade in and out of those in superimposition of course) rather than milliseconds, the response time is not worth no one technology to another . Worse, two monitors advertised as NWT 2 ms, the results are not identical. Here’s a reminder how are other displays of reference, by type of stone:
- TN 5 ms: 1.1 color image, 0.5 transparent (eg Iiyama Prolite E2208HDS)
- E-IPS 6 ms: 0.4 color image, 0.35 transparent (eg Dell 2209WA)
- TN 2 ms Average: 0.8 color image, transparent 0.5 (eg Samsung T220)
- C-PVA 8 ms: 0.95 color image, transparent 0.2 (eg Samsung F2380)
- Best TN 2 ms (excluding 120 Hz): 0.35 color image, transparent 0.5 (Samsung 2253BW).
Even more surprising, it also beats the two 120 Hz already on the market. The difference is not huge – a half-transparent image and a half in less colorful image only – but that was enough to dethrone the VX2268wm who himself had beaten the 2233RZ with a similar gap. To top it off, his delay in posting an average of about an image on average. With the accumulated results of the two, it becomes the new best friend of the players.
Colors: a slight blue dominance
As in other areas, the Acer GD245HQ did slightly better than its competitors. Its average difference between the colors requested by the graphics card, and those displayed by the monitor, or deltaE is 3.0 by default. The probe reveals a slight blue dominance. This is not very strong but can be annoying to practice editing image. Through the OSD we can not draw more, it will then go through the calibration profile, available on digital-focus, to make the colors just supplements.
Side contrast, it peaks at 900: 1, this rate is not exceptional but it is average.

For those who find this kind of monitors, it is necessary to remember that a 120 Hz screen is a link in the chain 3D. Without the 3D glasses and a recent NVIDIA graphics card, you must not expect to enjoy.
